TV/Display is black

Please note these steps are only for TVs/Displays with EXTERNAL media players, i.e. a device plugged into the display itself. If your TV/Display is not using an external media player, please see the section on SoC (System on Chip) media players.

  • Verify that the TV/Display is powered on.
    • Use the remote or physical button to power on the display.
    • If the TV/Display does not power on, verify that the TV/Display has power.
    • If the TV/Display still does not power on, remove/unplug the TV/Display from power, and wait 5 minutes. Reconnect the TV/Display to power, and try again.
  • Verify that the TV/Display is set to the proper input.
    • Typically our media players will be connected via a HDMI cable to the TV/Display.
    • Use the remote for your TV/Display to change the input/source.
      • Typically your remote will have a button labeled 'Input' or 'Source'.
      • Pressing this button will usually allow you to cycle through the various inputs that your TV/Display has available.
      • Change the input to the next available item, and wait 10-15 seconds. There may be a delay between changing sources and the picture being displayed. Repeat until content is being displayed. If content does not display on any of the available sources, proceed to the next steps.
  • Verify that the media player is powered on. Typically there is an indicator LED to signal that the media player has power.
  • The media player is a small computer that should be plugged into the TV/Display.
    • If there is no indicator LED or it is not illuminated, remove the power adapter from the rear of the media player, and press the power button for 10 seconds (with the power removed).
      • Reconnect the power adapter to the media player. The media player should power on automatically. In the event it does not, press the power button for 1-2 seconds. If the media player does not power on, move to the next step.
    • Verify that the media player has power at the outlet.(Typically media players and TVs/Displays share the same power outlet, if the TV has power, it is a safe bet the media player has power as well).
    • If the media player will not power on after following the above steps, please contact us for further assistance.
  • At this point we have verified that the TV/Display has power, and that the media player is powering on.
    • For the next steps we will be removing all connections to the media player and TV/Display. If they are inaccessible or you do not feel comfortable completing the following steps, please contact us for assistance.
    • Disconnect the power from the TV/Display and the media player.
    • Disconnect the HDMI, ethernet (and any other cables from the media player). Take note of the location of the ports, if it helps, take a picture with your smartphone.
    • Disconnect the HDMI or video cable from the TV/Display.
    • While you wait, inspect the cables for any visible or obvious signs of damage.
    • Wait 3-5 minutes.
    • Reconnect all cables to the media player, except the power.
    • Reconnect all cables to the TV/Display, including the power.
    • Verify that the connections are firm.
    • Reconnect power to the media player.
    • Verify that the media player and TV/Display are both powered on.
    • Verify that the TV/Display is on the correct input, by following the guidance above.
  • If the TV/Display shows a loading screen, or any sign of output from the media player, but then goes black, please contact us. We will attempt to login to the media player remotely to resolve.
  • If none of the above steps resolve your issue, please contact us.
