Troubleshooting for media players stuck on an EFI Shell
If your media player is show a screen that looks like this:
Please follow the steps below to resolve.
You'll need physical access to the media player. The media player should look like this (or very similar):
Things you will need:
- Standard USB keyboard
- HDMI capable monitor or television
Attach the USB Keyboard
- Plug the USB keyboard into one of the available USB ports on the media player. There is typically a single USB port on the rear of the device, and 3 on the side of the device.
Restart or Power off the media player
- Once the keyboard is plugged in press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart the media player, and immediately begin tapping the F7 key repeatedly on the keyboard.
- You may also power off the media player by holding the power button, or unplugging the power connector from the rear of the device.
- If you have powered off the device, wait 10-15 seconds and turn the media player back on.
- Immediately begin tapping the F7 key repeatedly on the keyboard.
Access the Boot Options Menu
- Once the media player is powered on, begin repeatedly tapping the F7 key on the keyboard.
- If you do not see anything on the screen, this is normal. Continue tapping until you see a screen like this:
If after tapping the F7 key for 15-30 seconds you do not see a screen like this, unplug the power to the device, remove the HDMI cable from the current port, and connect the HDMI cable to the other HDMI port on the device. Plug the power back in to the device, and tap the F7 key repeatedly again. If the screen above still does not show after 15-30 seconds, you may need to find another HDMI capable monitor or television.
- Use the arrow keys to navigate to the 'Enter Setup' option, and press the ENTER key on the keyboard.
- You should now see a screen that looks like this:
Change the Boot Option
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the 'Boot' section.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to 'Boot Option #1'
If 'Boot Option #1' is set to anything other than 'Windows Boot Manager', press the ENTER key while 'Boot Option #1' is highlighted.
Use the arrow keys to select 'Windows Boot Manager' and press the ENTER key.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the 'Save & Exit' tab on the top row. While 'Save Changes and Exit' is highlighted, press the ENTER key.
Use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' on the prompt and press the ENTER key.
The device should restart, and load properly. If it does not, please contact us at 855-961-0700 via text message or phone call.
Other Settings
While you are in the device setup menu, it can be helpful to double check other settings.
Use the arrow keys to select 'Chipset' on the top row. While 'Common Function' is highlighted, press ENTER.
Verify that 'Select auto power on or manual power on' is set to 'Auto Power On'.
Verify that OS Selection is set to 'Windows' and 'Wake on Lan' is set to 'Enable'.
Press ESC to return to the main screen.
Navigate to the 'Save & Exit' tab along the top row, and select 'Save Changes and Exit'
Select 'Yes' on the prompt. The device should restart.
